Midfielder James Ward-Prowse was another standout player last season. This season, however, he has transferred out to Nottingham Forest on a loan. Meanwhile, the Hammers have strengthened their midfield with the recent purchases of Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler.

The club has struggled to find a good striker to convert passes into goals. Their current striker, Michail Antonio has not been in good form. The signing of forward Niclas Fullkrug from Dortmund is expected to change that situation for the better.

EFL Cup

All Premier League teams and the English Football League teams (EFL) participate in the EFL Cup, which is divided into seven rounds. The teams are petered out in the first four rounds, which are then followed by the quarter-finals, semifinals, and the final match.

The EFL Cup is currently in its fourth round with 16 teams left. West Ham is not a part of the remaining 16 teams. They were knocked out in the third round after they lost to Liverpool 1–5.

Lopetegui has just joined the Hammers this season but is under immense pressure to steer the team to a mid-table finish. Previous coach, David Moyes managed to take the team to a UEFA Europa Conference League victory in 2022–23. However, he still couldn’t bring consistency in their performance.
