Key Dates for the 2026/2027 Season
The 2026/2027 Premier League campaign kicks off on Friday, 21 August 2026, 89 days after the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Defending champions Arsenal will host newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium in the traditional season opener, scheduled for 8 PM BST on Friday, 21 August. This marks the beginning of another exciting Premier League campaign, with Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town returning to England’s top flight.
Opening weekend runs from August 21 to 24, with several blockbuster Premier League fixtures. One of the standout matches of the opening round sees Liverpool travel to Newcastle United on Sunday, August 23, at 4:30 PM BST, live on Sky Sports. It is one of several exciting fixtures that promises to kick off the new Premier League campaign in style.
Boxing Day Fixtures
Matchweek 18 is scheduled to begin on Saturday, 27 December 2026, as part of the Premier League’s effort to provide clubs with at least 60 hours of rest during the festive period. However, selected fixtures may still be moved to Boxing Day (26 December) for live television broadcast, meaning the festive schedule is subject to change.
Mid‑Season Break
Unlike Germany’s Bundesliga, the Premier League no longer schedules a winter break. Following the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2026/2027 season starts one week later than usual to give players additional recovery time. Instead of introducing a mid-season break, the Premier League has focused on easing fixture congestion over the Christmas and New Year period by ensuring clubs have at least 60 hours between festive fixtures.
Instead of a formal pause, the league promises a “manageable workload” over winter with more recovery time between rounds. No two match rounds will be played within 60 hours of each other, helping to guarantee adequate rest for players. There will be no Premier League fixtures on Christmas Eve.
Three international breaks are scheduled during the 2026/2027 Premier League season:
- 21 September – 6 October 2026 (extended international window)
- 9–17 November 2026
- 22–30 March 2027
Transfer Windows (Summer and Winter)
The 2026/2027 season features one summer and one winter transfer window.
- Summer transfer window: 15 June – 1 September 2026.
- Winter transfer window: 1 January – 1 February 2027.
The summer transfer window opened on 15 June 2026 and will close at 11:00 PM BST on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. After the deadline, clubs must submit their updated Premier League squad lists for the new season.
The winter transfer window will run from 1 January to 1 February 2027, closing at 11:00 PM GMT on the final day.
Final Matchday
All 20 clubs will finish the 2026/2027 Premier League season together on Sunday, 30 May 2027. As is tradition, all ten matches in the final round will kick off simultaneously. The season has been scheduled to conclude one week before the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, while also allowing additional recovery time following the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rescheduled & Postponed Matches
The Premier League emphasises that all fixtures are subject to change. Television broadcasters select matches for live coverage, European competitions create midweek commitments and severe weather can lead to postponements.
Clubs also reschedule fixtures following domestic cup progress. As the league’s calendar aims to avoid matches within 60 hours, some rounds may move to accommodate rest periods.
