The 2024-25 season of the Premier League has been nothing short of exhilarating since it kicked off on August 16. While some of the English supergiants have already met, we are only at matchday 5 of 38, so there’s more drama to unfold. But, for now, we will take a look at how the action-packed weekend concluded with some intense clashes.

West Ham 0-3 Chelsea

The Blues were electric right from the moment the game kicked off, and they saw a goal in the fourth minute. A perfect assist from Jadon Sancho with a timely run from Nicolas Jackson ensured the ball went right into the net.

With a shaky defence from the Hammers, Jackson scored another goal for Chelsea, while West Ham’s goal was ruled out for offside. Just two minutes into the second half the Blues scored again as Cole Palmer was able to finish past West Ham’s keeper Areola, while the rest of the match remained goalless.

Aston Villa 3-1 Wolves

The Wolves took the lead in the 25th minute of the game as Matheus Cunha took control of the pass from Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos and sent the ball into the goal. It was not until the 73rd minute that Morgan Rogers’s pass found Ollie Watkins on the right side of the Wolves, and he scored the equaliser for Aston Villa.

But Villa turned the tables in the 88th minute after Youri Tielemans took the corner and smoothly crossed the ball to the back post where the waiting Ezri Konsa volleyed the ball into the goal. Substitute Jhon Durán secured the winning goal for Villa after another brilliant assist from Rogers.

Fulham 3-1 Newcastle

In the fourth minute of the match, Newcastle thought they took the lead, but the goal was denied as offside. Right in the next minute, Fulham’s Raúl Jiménez scored and clinched the lead for the Cottagers from an Adama Traoré assist. In the 22nd minute, the Magpies faced a quick attack as Fulham’s Emile Smith Rowe, assisted by Alex Iwobi, scored the second goal of the game.

Just a minute into the second half, the Magpies pulled through after Harvey Barnes scored from a precise assist by substitute Jacob Murphy. With Newcastle’s attempts to score again, the match went on without a new goal until Fulham’s striker, Nelson, sent the ball into the net in the 92nd minute.

Southampton 1-1 Ipswich Town

18-year-old Dibling gave a lead to the Saints after an impressive low goal against Ipswich’s keeper Muric. Cameron Archer had two chances to score for the Saints and while one ball hit the post, Muric saved the other one from entering the net. The match concluded with a tie securing a point for Ipswich after their captain Morsy’s excellent finish from outside the box.

Tottenham 3-1 Brentford

The Bees started the game with a stunning goal within 30 seconds of start time. Keane Lewis-Potter’s cross floated into the middle right from kick-off and Bryan Mbeumo’s volley secured a lead.

But Spurs were quick to respond after Maddison intercepted Pinnock’s pass and sent the ball into the goal. Brentford keeper Mark Flekken’s block rebounded to Dominic Solanke, who tapped it into the net and scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspurs.

Spurs continued to prevail and made a comeback after Brennan Johnson put the ball into the net from Son Heung-min’s pass. Spurs keeper Vicario was kept busy as they aimed to score an equaliser, but he made his presence clear with a fine save.

In the 85th minute, Spurs sealed the deal after another brilliant assist from captain Son saw the ball to Maddison who sent it over Flekken and into the goal.

Leicester City 1-1 Everton

The match charged up after the Toffees took the lead in the 12th minute when Iliman Ndiaye collected Ashley Young’s pass and scored his first goal for Everton. It started pouring halfway through the first half, while the second half was delayed by seven minutes due to a thunderstorm.

Everton came close to a second goal of the day but the Foxes keeper Mads Hermansen saved the home team. And it was not until the 73rd minute that the Foxes bagged an equaliser as Mavididi scored his first home goal for Leicester.

Liverpool 3-0 Bournemouth

In the fifth minute, Antoine Semenyo put the ball in the net and Bournemouth almost took the lead, but it was ruled offside by VAR. The Reds came in hot after this as Diaz went past Bournemouth keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and shot the ball into the net. In the next minute, he extended Liverpool’s lead by scoring another goal from an Alexander-Arnold assist.

The Reds kept at it and in the 37th minute, Nunez converted Salah’s pass into a wonderful strike as the ball hit the net. It was the winning goal for Liverpool as the rest of the match remained goalless

Crystal Palace 0-0 Man United

The clash at Selhurst Park remained goalless despite the Red Devils’ prominent performance in the first half where The Egles’ keeper Dean Henderson was kept busy. He made some brilliant saves, denying goals for Garnacho, De Ligt and Zirkzee.

The second half was more balanced between both teams as the two goalkeepers emerged as the heroes of the fixture with phenomenal saves. However, the match ended without any goals.

Brighton 2-2 Nottm Forest

Forest took the lead in the 13th minute as Wood scored from a penalty. But Brighton levelled up before the first half ended as Hinshelwood’s header went straight into the net. They extended the lead in the 45th minute after Welbeck sent the ball into the right side of the net.

In the tense second half, Forest earned their equaliser in the 70th minute when Silva’s perfect assist ensured a simple finish for Sosa. But things heated up in the last 7 minutes of the game as Gibbs-White got his second yellow for his challenge on Joao Pedro which drew sharp responses from benches and both managers, Nuno and Hurzeler, were also dismissed.

Man City 2-2 Arsenal

In this dramatic clash, Citizens took an early lead after Haaland’s 9th-minute strike ensured his 100th goal for Manchester City. But the Gunners soon levelled up after Calafiori gracefully put the ball into the top corner of the net. In the extra time of the first half, Arsenal made an epic comeback after a Bukayo Saka corner created an opportunity for Gabriel to display a perfect finish.

However, before the extra time ended, Trossard got his second yellow for slamming into Silva and kicking the ball away before the whistle. In the second half, the 10-man Arsenal squad’s first-class defence kept City at bay until nearly the very end. In the 98th minute, Stones kicked the ball into the net ensuring a spectacular draw for Citizens.
