The UEFA Champions League 2024/25 will be the 70th season of this glorious tournament. To close out the 7th decade by winning the legendary cup would be an outstanding achievement. UEFA Champions League 2024/25 – New Format
One of the grandest transformations this year is the newly presented format of the UEFA Champions League. The latest modifications will drastically transform the picture because the new format maximises the frequency of vital matches and alters the variety of opponents.
The old group stage will not return, and a new league phase will debut in the upcoming UEFA Champions League 2024/25 season. Interestingly enough, the number of participants has also increased. From now on, not 32 teams will compete in the extravagant football competition, but 36.
In total, the squads will have to play eight league phase games, and the most outlandish part is that you will not play that same opponent twice. The proportion of home and away games follows the 50/50 rule – four home and four away battles.
The first eight clubs will go directly to the round of 16, and teams ranked 9-24 will play at least two more games in the two-legged knockout phase playoff round. After the knockout round, 16 teams will continue their journey towards the title. Sadly, those who finish 25-36 will pack their bags, as their run in the major European football competitions will be over.
This year, the clubs will not be able to drop down to lower-tier tournaments and try their best to win at least something. The exact format structure will emerge in two other European football competitions: the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League.

UEFA Champions League 2024/25 – Draw Outcomes
The biggest loser of this year’s UEFA Champions League draw was Paris Saint-Germain. They will face four football powerhouses: Manchester City, Bayern, Atlético and Arsenal. The total UEFA coefficient of all eight PSG opponents is very high, so the schedule of the French representatives is definitely the hardest out of all 36 competitors.
The mood of the UEFA Champions League title holders, Real Madrid, should be more than optimistic. The draw has paved a relatively favourable path for the team because their biggest rivals in the league phase will be Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
