Nevertheless, his 6.5 billion global streams recently delivered him the BRIT Billion Award.

We can put him on the superstar list for this Eurovision Song Contest because he worked with industrial superstars like Sir Elton John, Kylie, and Pet Shop Boys. Olly Alexander’s icon status, headlined events, and absolute worldwide presence saw him perpetuated at Madame Tussauds. The pop star changed British culture for the better, and now he will have an opportunity to represent his nation, the United Kingdom, on the Eurovision Song Contest stage in Sweden.

Life of Olly Alexander

The full name of Olly Alexander is Oliver Alexander Thornton. He stood out for the first time when he started to perform as the main vocalist of the pop band Years & Years. They achieved two No. 1 albums on the UK Albums Chart, a No. 1 single and five TOP-10 entries on the UK Singles Chart.

Alexander’s acting career commenced in the film Summerhill. His subsequent movie, Bright Star, was nominated for an Academy Award. Later, O. Alexander contributed to the screenplay and music for the indie project The Dish & the Spoon. His movie list is long, and we will not cover it all here, but in January 2021, Alexander was the leading star in the drama It’s a Sin, which portrays gay dynamism in the 1980s and early 1990s. Also, the topic of HIV/AIDS is covered.

Facts about Olly Alexander

  • Olly Alexander was invited into the band after another crew member, Mikey Goldsworthy, heard him singing Killing Me Softly in the shower. Regardless, it happened after the party.
  • Olly Alexander is the only band member to have grown up in the United Kingdom. Mikey grew up in Australia, whilst Emre Turkmen spent his childhood in Turkey and the Netherlands.
  • Ryan Heffington, who has also operated with other massive artists like Sia, FKA Twigs, and Britney Spears, was the leading director of their musical video for the hit King.
  • Alexander wrote his first piece of music when he was only 10.
  • Three years later, when he was approximately 13, his parents divorced, and his mother single-handedly raised him.
  • When he was sixteen, he got an agent who agreed to represent him. He ultimately dropped out of school and had only one hope – to work as an actor.
  • He is homosexual. His mother fully supported him in his choice. He talked about that for the first time when he was just 20. However, he never told his father because he had lost touch with him since his parents went separate ways, and he never felt like reaching out to him to announce that.

Eurovision Song Contest 2024

As we all know, Olly Alexander will represent the United Kingdom in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The song he will perform in Sweden is still under wraps. However, the musical product was created and co-written by Alexander and Danny L Harle, who have produced hits for Dua Lipa, Chic and Charli XCX.

Alexander’s hometown of Harrogate hosted the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest after Bucks Fizz won for the UK the previous year. The only man who made the British Eurovision star shine again was Sam Ryder, who took second place in Turin in 2022. Many still think that the pop-rock anthem, Spaceman, was the winning song. Olly Alexander is the most prominent UK artist to represent the country since Bonnie Tyler did so in 2013, finishing in 19th place.

The UK always sent lower-rank singers or at least not elite-type artists. However, some countries and artists did not fear going all the way. Two former Eurovision participants managed to win the qualification and show their art to the whole of Europe. Those two artists are:

  • Italian balladeer Marco Mengoni – he has 70 platinum records.
  • Swedish Måns Zelmerlöw – he had three No. 1 albums before winning the 2015 contest with Heroes in Vienna, Austria.

Song Lyrics

Time is frozen, all memories lost

[Verse 1]
There’s a place where we break the line (Make me)
Make it a circle redefined, mm (Di—)
Beautiful gardens, eternal flowers (Make me di—)
You know the way, so take me there

[Chorus]
Won’t you make me dizzy from your kisses?
Will you take my hand and spin me
‘Round and ’round until the moment never ends? Mm
Make me dizzy from your kissеs
Will you take my hand and spin me?
Take mе back to the beginning again (Again, again)

[Verse 2]
Pulling me close, I feel a stillness in the air (Di—)
Time has frozen, all memories lost

[Chorus]
So won’t you make me dizzy from your kisses?
Will you take my hand and spin me
‘Round and ’round until the moment never ends? Mm
Make me dizzy from your kisses
Will you take my hand and spin me?
Take me back to the beginning again (Again, again)

[Post-Chorus]
So don’t you make me dizzy from, oh
(Oh, won’t you make)

[Bridge]
There isn’t an end, there isn’t a start
I don’t wanna stop, I can’t go too far
There isn’t an end, there isn’t a start
I don’t wanna stop, I can’t go too far
There isn’t an end, there isn’t a start
I don’t wanna stop, I can’t go too far
There isn’t an end, there isn’t

[Chorus]
So won’t you make me dizzy from your kisses? (Oh)
Will you take my hand and spin me
‘Round and ’round until the moment never ends?
(Until the moment never ends)
Uh, make me dizzy from your kisses
Will you take my hand and spin me? (Take my hand)
Take me back to the beginning again (Again, again)
