As April 2026 crosses into its third week, it is time for the third of the four UK and Ireland Grand Nationals to take centrestage in the National Hunt calendar. The Scottish Grand National will take place between Friday, 17 April and Saturday, 18 April at the Ayr Racecourse this year.
The very first race conducted in Scotland under the name of Grand National took place in 1858 and consisted of 32 jumps. Since then, it changed its location twice until finding its home at the Ayr Racecourse in 1965.
