The Premier League and UEFA Champions League may be over for the season, but football fans won’t stay bored this summer. FIFA Club World Cup is starting its 2025 edition, which means that some of the best football clubs from all over the world will gather to compete for the champion title in this prestigious tournament.
The competition is set to take place in the United States between 14 June and 13 July 2025. Until this year, the FIFA Club World Cup was played among seven teams, however this year the competition was expanded to include 32 clubs.
The competition will start with a group stage, where each team will play against every other team of their group (a total of four teams per group). Two teams with the highest number of points in the group will advance to the knockout stage.
The opening match of Group D will take place on Monday, 16 June. Chelsea and Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) will come together on the field at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The match will kick off at 15:00 ET (or 20:00 BST).
Chelsea qualified as the winner of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League, while LAFC qualified by winning the play-in match to replace the original contender, Mexican club León, that was removed from the competition due to the conflict of interests.
