Formula 1 2025 Miami GP Preview

Miami Grand Prix is one of the newest on the F1 calendar. However, it’s quickly becoming a staple track. With a sprint weekend upon us, everything is on the table. The Miami International Autodrome is a demanding street circuit that requires tyre management from the drivers and smart setup decisions from engineers. With plenty of opportunities for overtaking and a sprint on Saturday, we can hope for plenty of surprises ahead of the weekend.

After a fun race in Jeddah, the 2025 Formula 1 season promises a three-way battle for the Driver’s Championship. Oscar Piastri currently holds the lead and all the cards with the rocketship McLaren car. However, Lando Norris should bounce back, with Max Verstappen always ready to take the challenge head-on. Let’s see the extensive preview for the Formula 1 2025 Grand Prix in Miami!

3 Biggest Storylines Before the Miami GP

Can Oscar Keep His Momentum Going?

Even though his season started with a costly mistake on the wet asphalt of Melbourne, Oscar Piastri recovered with a vengeance and won 3 out of the 4 next Grand Prix races. The Australian has been the most consistent driver, capitalising on McLaren’s excellent pace while his main rivals have struggled.

Max Verstappen has been dealing with Red Bull’s inconsistencies. He won in Suzuka but, on numerous occasions, “fought with” the demanding car, trying to get it to behave like he wanted. On the other hand, Lando Norris struggles to remain consistent and has made crucial mistakes under pressure.

All of this points to the McLaren youngster being our main championship contender. The 7bet odds and most expert bookmakers also see Piastri as one of the strongest drivers before the Miami Grand Prix.

Will Ferrari Upgrades Finally Show Their Worth?

Ferrari started the year on the back foot. Despite Lewis Hamilton’s win in China’s Sprint, the Scuderia outfit has struggled for both one-lap and race pace compared to their main rivals. However, opposite to 2022, 2023 and 2024, the legendary team showed a better race than qualifying pace and seeks to sneak back into the fight for the constructor’s title.

They recently brought a major floor upgrade to Bahrain and made significant strides forward. Both in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Charles Leclerc has been able to move faster than the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, at times even challenging McLaren cars on raw pace.

However, there’s still optimism to be had as the Monegasque driver admitted that the best is yet to come as those two tracks might not have been the most suited for these upgrades. If the Scuderia sees noticeable improvements in both high-speed and technical braking sections, we may see the Prancing Horse challenging for podium places week in and week out.

The main issue is Lewis Hamilton’s consistency. The legendary driver has struggled to match Charles Leclerc on pace and only has his sprint win to fall back on. Team principal Fred Vasseur has backed Hamilton and says that the team is fully behind their driver and will do everything they can to help him get back up to speed.

What the Future Holds for Max Verstappen?

Numerous instances have shown that the 4-time defending World Champion has been annoyed by Red Bull’s internal turmoil and downfall. From dissatisfaction with setup all the way to openly criticising the handling of team’s 2nd driver situations, the Dutchman is seemingly moving towards a Red Bull exit.

Even though he has been shutting down any talks to other teams during media interviews, F1 insiders are pairing Max with Toto Wolff-led Mercedes. Only Merc and Aston Martin seem to have the necessary funds to go after F1’s most expensive driver and can offer him the resources and know-how to go for more wins and titles.

So far, we’re left guessing at what is really going on behind the scenes and whether a Russell – Verstappen swap is really something we can expect.

Miami GP | Track & History

Miami joined the F1 calendar in 2022. With Formula 1 seeking to expand in North America, it became the 3rd venue on the continent and the 2nd one on US soil, joining Austin’s COTA. As a track, the Miami International Autodrome is a dynamic street circuit with a little bit of everything.

Drivers have a few DRS and hard braking zones for overtaking. Cars reach speeds over 215 mph with the help of the DRS in the longest straight. There are also 19 technical corners with little margin for error, testing the precision of each athlete.

It’s easy to overheat the tyres in the final section during Qualifying, so the track sometimes rewards a more conservative approach to start the lap. During the race, tyre strategy plays a major role because the heat speeds up degradation. As a venue, Miami stands out with premium, VIP access and some of the more expensive entry tickets.

So far, we’ve had 3 Grand Prix in Miami. Max Verstappen has won two of them, with a single victory for Lando Norris in 2024 – his maiden in F1.

Recap of the Last Racing Weekend | Saudi Arabian GP

Oscar Piastri won the 3rd Grand Prix of the year and a 2nd one in a row on the fast streets of Jeddah. The Australian was on it from the get-go. He made no mistakes and beat Max Verstappen by nearly 3 seconds to take the checkered flag.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took the final podium place, keeping Lando Norris at bay, who ended up 4th. The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli got 5th and 6th, respectively, adding a solid chunk of points to their Constructors tally.

A pleasant surprise was a double points finish by Williams. The British team’s driver duo of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon worked together to keep a faster Isack Hadjar (RB) behind them and got 8th and 9th place.

Jeddah proved to be a bad weekend for Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), with both drivers crashing in the opening lap.
