Skateboarding made its debut at the Olympics during the Tokyo 2020 Games and had four events. All four events—men’s park, women’s park, men’s street, and women’s street—were included in the Paris 2024 Olympics as well.
Keegan Palmer of Australia became the two-time gold medalist in the men’s park event. Tom Schaar of the United States and Augusto Akio of Brazil won the silver and bronze medals, respectively. On the women’s side, Arisa Trew of Australia finished with the gold medal. Kokona Hiraki of Japan and Sky Brown of Great Britain retained their silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The United States won two medals in the men’s street event. Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston from Team USA won the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Yuto Horigome of Japan retained the gold medal in the event. Japan’s Coco Yoshizawa and Liz Akama won the gold and silver medals, respectively in the women’s street event. Rayssa Leal, who won the silver medal in Tokyo, finished with a bronze medal this time.

Overview of the Events
The skateboarding competitions, held from 28 July to 7 August at Place de la Concorde in Paris, featured four medal events: two for men and two for women, specifically in the disciplines of street and park. It marked skateboarding’s second appearance at the Olympics, following its debut at the Tokyo Olympics.
A total of 88 skateboarders from 23 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in the four events this year. The number of competitors increased from 80 in Tokyo to 88 in Paris.
Gold and Silver Medal Winners
Men’s Park Event
A total of 22 skateboarders qualified for the men’s park event. Out of these 22, only eight advanced to the final after the heat round. Keegan Palmer, the gold medalist from the last Olympics finished in first place with a score of 93.78 on his third run. Pedro Barros, the silver medalist from Tokyo finished in sixth place with a score of 89.24 in his very first run.
Palmer bettered his own record from the heat and finished with a score of 93.11 in his first run in the final. Tom Schaar, who finished in second place in the heat round, managed to bag the silver medal with a score of 92.23 in his second run.
Women’s Park Event
The 22 skateboarders were placed in four heats, and each of them got three 45-second runs to advance to the next round. The top eight skateboarders from the combined ranking competed in the final.
Sakura Yosozumi, the Tokyo gold medalist, failed to qualify for the final and finished in 10th place. Kokona Hiraki, another Japanese skateboarder and the Tokyo silver medalist finished in first place in the heat round with a score of 88.07 in her second run. Sky Brown, the bronze medalist, was in fourth place with the best score of 84.75 in her first run.
Arisa Trew, the only Australian skateboarder who qualified for the final, helped Australia win two gold medals in the park event. She could score only 35.53 in her first run but finished with a score of 93.18 in her third run. Hiraki retained her silver medal after scoring 92.63 in her third run.
Men’s Street Event
In the street events, the skateboarders had to perform two 45-second runs followed by five single trick rounds. Only the highest run score and the two best trick scores were considered for the final rankings of each skateboarder.
All three medalists from Tokyo, Yuto Horigome (gold), Kelvin Hoefler (silver), and Jagger Eaton (bronze) qualified for the final round. Horigome had a total score of 270.18 and finished in fourth place. Hoefler was in sixth position with a score of 265.24, while Eaton finished as the top scorer with a total score of 274.88.
Horigome made a spectacular jump and won the gold medal with a total score of 281.14. Eaton bettered his own record and bagged the silver medal this time with a total score of 281.04.
Women’s Street Event
Momiji Nishiya became the youngest person ever to win a gold medal for Japan in street skateboarding during the Tokyo 2020 Games. However, she failed to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The other two medalists, Rayssa Leal (silver) and Funa Nakayama (bronze), qualified for the final round of street skateboarding in Paris. Leal finished in seventh place with a total score of 241.43, while Nakayama was in fifth position with a total score of 245.52.
Coco Yoshizawa, who finished first in the heat round, won the gold medal with a total score of 272.75. Liz Akama, another Japanese skateboarder maintained her second place from the heat round and clinched the silver medal with a total score of 265.95.
Bronze Medalists
Men’s Park Event
Augusto Akio, the Brazilian skateboarder, finished in eighth place in the heat round. The margin between him and the ninth-ranked skateboarder was a mere 0.69 points. In his last run, Akio won the bronze medal with a score of 91.85.
Women’s Park Event
Sky Brown of Great Britain had a far better outing in the final than the heat round. She managed to score 92.31 in her third run and retained her bronze medal.
Men’s Street Event
Nyjah Huston finished in seventh place in the men’s street event in Tokyo. He finished in second place in the heat round and then made it to third place in the final round to bag the bronze medal. He had a total score of 279.38 in the final.
Women’s Street Event
Rayssa Leal became a two-time Olympic medalist in the women’s street event. The Brazilian skateboarder had a total score of 253.37 and won the bronze medal. She had won the silver medal in Tokyo.
