Wimbledon Semi-Finals 2024: Schedule, Predictions, And Betting Odds

The Wimbledon 2024 has given tennis fans action-packed quarterfinals as players battled to save a place in the semi-finals. From creating history to dropping a first set and coming back with a staggering victory, the London grass courts have seen it all in this nerve-racking tennis tournament.

The unseeded Croatian, Donna Vekic, bagged a place in the Grand Slam women’s singles semi-finals for the first time in her career. Lulu Sun had to bid a bitter farewell to the tournament after being beaten 5-7 6-4 6-1 by Vekic. On the other hand, Jasmine Paolini’s strategic brilliance rattled the American Emma Navarro who unshackled one attack after the other, but Paolini inched through with a 6-2 6-1 victory.

The Latvian superstar, Jeļena Ostapenko, was flattened by the 31st-seed Czech, Barbora Krejčíková, who already boasts multiple trophies from Wimbledon. A 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory resulted in Krejčíková winning the first of the last four clashes with Ostapenko. While the match between Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina ended with a Kazakhstan victory over Ukraine, with 6-3, 6-2 in just 61 minutes.

In the men’s singles, one of the top-ranked tennis superstars, Jannik Sinner, was eliminated by the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who announced himself to the world with a thrilling victory, securing his second Wimbledon men’s singles semi-finals. Meanwhile, Sinner’s rival Carlos Alcaraz made proud his previous Wimbledon laurel by beating Tommy Paul with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 mastery in this tennis tournament.

The global tennis sensation, Novak Djokovic, had a smooth entry in what will be his 13th record-tying semi-final as his quarterfinal opponent, Alex de Minaur, withdrew his participation from Wimbledon, mere hours ahead of the showdown. The encounter between Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz witnessed another Italian victory as Musetti bagged his maiden Grand Slam semi-final defeating Fritz with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory.

Women’s Singles

The intense showdown between Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejčíková is set to test the two champions as they contest for a place in the finals. The previous Wimbledon champion Rybakina is in top-notch form this tournament, while the French Open champion Krejčíková has finally stormed her way into the advanced stages of Wimbledon.

Even though Krejčíková won the last time these two title-holders met, Rybakina has the upper hand on the favourites table as she repeatedly defeated the prime candidates of the tournament.

As Jasmine Paolini and Donna Vekic face off on the grass ground in London, the tenacious Vekic will want to keep hitting the ball after an enticing win against Lulu Sun. Paolini will also put her best foot forward with whopping statistics of her recent 10 tournaments, which saw her take 68.3% of service games and 47.1% of return games.

The last time these two players met, Paolini had triumphed with 7-6, 6-2. Paolini’s versatility gives her an edge in this semi-final.

Men’s Singles

The clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev promises to be full of drama as the defending champion takes on the dark horse of the quarterfinal. Even if the Spaniard has displayed terrific form in this Wimbledon, the Russian also exhibited his skills when defeating one of the top players, Jannik Sinner.

However, statistically speaking, Alcaraz has won four of the six matches where these players have fought each other. So, he tops the favourites table.

While Djokovic is a world champion with some incredible titles to his name, Musetti also holds 82.7% victory in service games and 19.4% in his return games. His dazzling triumph over Taylor Fritz has proved his exceptional form in this tournament stating that this underdog is not to be taken lightly.

But not to forget, Djokovic’s experience and tactical versatility give him an edge over Musetti as he’s favoured as a victory in this semi-final.
