While gymnastics requires athletic prowess, strength, balance, and good coordination, it is also characterized with elements of artistic expression. In fact, one of the types of this sport is called artistic gymnastics for that very reason.  Its roots can be traced back to Ancient Greece where it was held in high regard and considered not only an exercise for the body but for the mind as well.
