The stage is all set for the ultimate domestic German league to kick off. On August 23, the Bundesliga will begin with its first match of the season between reigning champion Leverkusen and Borussia M’gladbach. While Bayern München will face Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund will play their first match of the league against Frankfurt.
There are two new teams this season as Darmstadt and Cologne were relegated after their last season. It will be the first time for Holstein Kiel to set foot in the Bundesliga after clinching the runner-up title in the second division. On the other hand, St. Pauli returns to the league after thirteen years as they snatched victory in the second division.
While coaching master strategist Xabi Alonso aims to defend the title that Leverkusen earned last year, former Man City striker Vincent Kompany has taken over the coaching duties for Bayern München. While they have been defending their title since 2012, they lost in the last season. Kompany is likely to face pressure in order to deliver a better performance from the team this season.
The footballing star Nuri Sahin has been appointed the new coach of Dortmund. Freiburg, after a span of 12 years, bid adieu to the legendary Christian Streich, and Julian Schuster has taken over. Bochum and Union Berlin have also appointed new head coaches for this season.
