As the Olympics entered its final week, sports professionals and enthusiasts around the world started counting medals, analyzing achievements, and even making predictions for the next Olympic Games.
And while there is still another week full of spectacular events and fierce competition waiting for all sport fans, many types of sports have finished their Olympic run in the year 2024. Some teams celebrate the victories, others analyze what needs to be improved and get ready for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.
The 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games will remain in the memories for a lot of colourful events and moments that happened along the way. Several sports got their official break into the Olympic programme, multiple world and Olympic records have been created, and much more.
But before the French capital goes back to its normal life, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting events and wins that the 2024 Summer Olympics brought us.
Swimming Olympics 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
Swimming may not have been part of the Ancient Greek Olympic Games, but when the organizers of the first Olympic Games of modernity were deciding on which sports to include into the programme, swimming was a prominent feature on the list. Other sports tasked to revive one of the most popular sport events in the world were athletics, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, shooting, tennis, weightlifting, and wrestling.
Since 1896 when the Modern Olympic Games started their triumphant history, swimming has always been part of the core programme. It was also one of the earliest sports to open up for women’s teams. As to the number of events qualifying for medals, swimming holds second place, with only athletics bypassing it.
All indoor events of the 36th edition of Olympic swimming were scheduled between 27 July and 4 August. They took place at the multipurpose Paris La Défense Arena. The 10 km open water marathon will take place on 8 August for women and 9 August for men at the Pont Alexander III. A total of 854 athletes were set to compete in 37 events. Out of these, 18 were for men, 18 were for women, and one was a mixed event.
With such an extensive programme and a large number of Olympic events, the qualification process for participation was also rather extensive and included quotas in different disciplines.
