Genesis Scottish Open 2026: Schedule & Tournament Guide

In golfing, the Genesis Scottish Open is the final event before The Open Championship. It’s one of the strongest fields of the summer, where top players from all over the world come together for a genuine links test on the East Lothian Coast.

Co-sanctioned by the PGA and DP World Tours, the Genesis Scottish Open is set to take place from Thursday, 9 July to Sunday, 12 July 2026 at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. This guide will cover all fans and bettors need to know, including the full round-by-round schedule, tournament format, venue info, key dates and even the confirmed field. Genesis Scottish Open 2026 Schedule Overview

The Genesis Scottish Open is one of the standout events on the golfing calendar. It sits in a prime slot, being held a week before the Open Championship. The Scottish Open is also a part of the prestigious Rolex Series from the DP World Tour. Since 2022, it has been co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour together, meaning fans can expect to see top talent from both tours. Genesis, the Korean car manufacturer, is the title sponsor at least until 2030.

The 2026 edition of the tournament takes place at the very famous Renaissance Club, and runs from 9 to 12 July. The Renaissance Club is a links-style course on the Archerfield Estate in East Lothian. As it’s just a week before The Open Championship, the Scottish Open serves as the ideal warm-up before the big event. Plus, it is also the final stop on the Open Qualifying Series, meaning the leading three players not already exempt earn a place in The Open field.

Tournament Format

The Genesis Scottish Open uses the classic professional stroke play format. It’s the standard for most PGA and DP World Tour events. Here’s a breakdown of the key elements in this format:

  • 72-hole stroke play – each player is set to complete four rounds of 18 holes. Every stroke counts towards their cumulative total.
  • 36-hole cut – after the first two rounds, the field is reduced. Typically, the TOP 65 and ties advance to the weekend play, which means that getting a great start goes a long way.
  • Winner – the player with the fewest total strokes across all four rounds is the champion.
  • Playoff – if 2 or more players are tied at the top after 72 holes have been played, they are thrown into a sudden-death playoff. They replay nominated holes until one wins outright.

Just as an example, we can remember the 2021 edition, where Min Woo Lee won via a first-playoff-hole birdie to leave Matt Fitzpatrick and Thomas Detry empty-handed.

The Renaissance Club Course Guide

The Renaissance Club sits in a beautiful location within the Archerfield Estate, on the East Lothian Coast. It’s near North Berwick, around 45 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, along the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. The course was completed and opened in 2008. It’s the creation of the world-famous course architect Tom Doak, playing as a hybrid of parkland and true links golf right on the coast.

At a par of 70, and roughly 7,282 total yards, it’s far from the longest course on tour, but the coastal location creates serious challenges for the players. Firm fairways, unpredictable and ever-changing coastal winds, and a links-style layout pose numerous difficulties. Course knowledge, proper iron play and comfort in the wind matter much more than raw drives.

When the wind is low or consistent, at least, the course could yield low scores. For example, the 2025 edition was won by Chris Gotterup at 15-under. However, if a stiff breeze comes along, the challenge is transformed entirely.

This is why the Genesis Scottish Open is regarded as the ideal setup before the Open Championship. The emphasis on shot-shaping and the ground game closely mirrors what players will see at Royal Birkdale next week. It’s a significant title in its own right, even though the Open sometimes casts a large shadow over it.

As every year, the field in the Genesis Scottish Open is never weak. The 2026 edition seems particularly strong, pairing leaders from both tours and adding a handful of capable qualifiers to round things out. The co-sanctioned structure is exactly why the line-up seems so strong.

Defending Champion

Chris Gotterup returns as defending champion after a two-stroke victory in 2025. Last year, the American fired a final-round 66 to hold off Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge, finishing at an impressive 15-under. He will arrive at the Scottish seaside with great momentum, having captured the 2026 John Deere Classic just days earlier. Gotterup will definitely have his eyes set on becoming the first back-to-back Genesis Scottish Open champ since the co-sanctioning in 2022.

Top-Ranked Players & Ryder Cup Stars

The headliners beside Gotterup are obvious. We will see World’s #1 and #2 in Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, respectively. They come in as the outright odds favourites at 7bet’s sportsbook and in the eyes of many experts.

However, these two will be joined by a strong contingent including LIV Golf stars Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, who are no slouches in their own right. Since this is a co-sanctioned event, as we have mentioned, we will see them go head-to-head throughout the days of the Genesis Scottish Open Schedule in 2026. Rahm’s appearance is particularly intriguing because it will be one of his first starts in a PGA Tour event since joining LIV Golf in 2023.

Several former champs will also make tee-offs in 2026, giving added storylines and hopes for recapturing previous successes. Xander Schauffele (2022), Rory McIlroy (2023), Robert MacIntyre (2024) and Aaron Rai (2020) all return, so fans will see 5 of the last 6 winners in the same field. Home fans will definitely be rooting for Robert MacIntyre after his memorable 2024 triumph.

Tee Times & Leaderboard

Once the tournament week begins, the official Genesis Scottish Open Schedule of tee times, pairings and groupings is published by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour on their websites and social media. The official detailed schedule is usually released the day before each round

Here’s how you can follow and stay in the loop:

  • Official tee times and pairings — published on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour websites and apps ahead of each round. Plus, most of the same information is available on the organiser’s social media profiles.
  • Live leaderboard — updated shot-by-shot on the official tour platforms and major golf broadcasters during play, as well as in 7bet’s IN-PLAY catalogue.
  • Round-by-round results – full scorecards and round summaries available after each day’s play on the official websites and major sports news outlets like Sky, BBC, ESPN, etc.

In the UK, fans can catch live broadcast coverage via Sky Sports Golf. Round 1 begins on Thursday. Remember that 7bet offers plenty of betting markets for the Scottish Open as well as other major golf events during the calendar year.

Prize Money

The Genesis Scottish Open 2026 carries a total purse of $9 million (approx. £6.74 million), making it one of the richest events, mainly thanks to being a part of the Rolex Series. The winner receives approximately £1.18 million, along with 500 FedEx Cup points for their rankings.

Beyond the prize money, the stakes are raised by the Open Qualifying Series element. The 3 leading players not already exempt for The Open will earn their place at Royal Birkdale the following week. Hence, a strong week in Scotland for players on the bubble can secure a shot at substantial payouts and a major head start.
