The last time France and Paraguay met at a World Cup, back in 1998, it took a 114th-minute golden goal from Laurent Blanc to separate them, and France went on to lift the trophy.

They meet again on Saturday 4 July at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, kick-off 10pm UK time for another great Round of 16 match. Ninety minutes, maybe more, decides who takes on Canada or Morocco in the quarter-finals.

Below, we’ve laid out the Paraguay vs France betting odds in full, with every market explained in plain English so you get the full picture before placing your bet.

Paraguay vs France – Betting Odds

The Paraguay vs France odds leave little room for debate. France are as short as it gets for a knockout tie, their favourite status barely dented by the occasion, while Paraguay sit at the far end of the board as rank outsiders. The draw, as ever, splits the two.

1X2 Betting Odds

The 1X2 market is the one most people picture when they think about betting on football. It has three possible outcomes and you’re simply backing one of them: the first team to win (the “1”), the match to end in a draw (the “X”), or the second team to win (the “2”).

This market settles on 90 minutes plus stoppage time only. In a knockout game like this, if the score is level after 90 minutes and the tie goes to extra time or penalties, the 1X2 bet still settles as a draw.

So a wager on France here is a wager on France leading when the referee blows for full time, not on France going through to the quarter-finals. If you want to bet on who actually progresses, that’s a separate market called “To Qualify”.

The prices themselves tell you who the bookmaker thinks is more likely to win. Shorter odds mean a more probable outcome and a smaller return; longer odds mean the opposite.

Here are the current Paraguay vs France odds in the 1X2 market:

Paraguay win (1) Draw (X) France win (2)
15/1 5/1 3/17

Double Chance Odds

Double chance is the same as 1X2, but it lets you cover two of the three 1X2 outcomes with a single bet.

There are three options:

  • “1X” backs the first team to win or draw
  • “12” backs either team to win, so your only losing result is the draw
  • “X2” backs the draw or the second team to win

The trade-off is obvious: because you’re covering more outcomes, the returns are smaller than a straight win bet. The odds below show how much the bookmaker trims the price in exchange for that extra security.

1X – Paraguay or draw 12 – Paraguay or France X2 – Draw or France
8/3 1/11 1/33

Handicap Betting Odds

Handicap betting exists to make lopsided matches interesting again. When one team is a heavy favourite, backing them to win outright pays almost nothing.

That’s where handicap betting becomes a popular market: the bookmaker gives a virtual deficit to the favourite and a head start to the underdog, to level the playing field. You then bet on the result after that adjustment is applied.

How it works in practice: a “-1” handicap means that team starts the match a goal down in the eyes of the bet, so they have to win by two clear goals or more for your wager to land. A “+1” handicap means the other team starts a goal up, so they can lose by exactly one goal and your bet still wins, as it also does if they draw or win outright.

It sounds fiddly the first time you meet it, but the logic is just addition and subtraction on the final score.

Paraguay +2 France –2
10/13 10/11

Paraguay +1 France –1
11/4 4/17

Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Odds

Both Teams to Score is a market that ignores who wins completely. All it asks is a yes-or-no question: will both teams find the net at least once during the 90 minutes? If each side scores a single goal, “Yes” wins. If either team fails to score at least once in the match, “No” wins.

The appeal is that you don’t need to predict the result or the exact score. 1-1, 3-2 and 2-1 all settle “Yes” the same way. As with 1X2, this market is normally settled on 90 minutes plus added time, extra time is excluded.

Yes No
6/4 8/17

Goal Total (Over/Under) Odds

The goal total market is a bet on the total number of goals scored in the game by both teams. The bookmaker sets a line, most commonly 2.5, and you decide whether the combined goal tally will finish above or below it.

Why the half goal? It removes the possibility of a tie. Because no match can end with 2.5 goals, every result lands clearly on one side of the line.

  • “Over 2.5” wins if there are three goals or more in total (2-1, 3-0, 4-2 all count)
  • “Under 2.5” wins if there are two goals or fewer (0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 1-1)

Only goals scored inside normal time are counted, and once again extra time is left out.

Remember: You can choose other lines as well, like 1.5, 3.5 or 4.5 – each one will have its own prices.

Over 2.5 goals Under 2.5 goals
5/8 6/5

Correct Score Odds

Correct score is the riskiest of the common markets and the one with the biggest potential returns. You’re not backing a winner or a goal range. You’re predicting the exact final score, down to the individual goal. Call France to win but get the scoreline wrong and the bet still loses.

Because there are so many plausible results in a football match, the odds here are much longer than anywhere else. That’s the trade-off: a small stake can return a lot, but you’re threading a needle.

As always, these settle on the 90-minute score, so a game decided in extra time or on penalties pays out on wherever it stood at full time.

The table below features a handful of possible scorelines for this match, but you can back any result you like.

0–0 France Win 0–1 France Win 0–2 France Win 1–3
15/1 11/2 4/1 11/1
