Handicap betting evens out a match by giving one team imaginary extra goals (a plus line, like +1) and taking the same number from the other (a minus line, like -1). The adjusted score settles the bet.
Let’s see an example with Austria -1. A win by two goals or more, say 1-3, becomes 1-2, so the bet wins. A one-goal win, say 1-2, becomes 1-1, and your stake comes back. A draw or an Ireland win loses. Ireland +1.5 wins if Ireland win, draw or lose by one goal. Half-goal lines can’t end level, so there’s no refund: they either win or lose.
Quarter-goal lines, like +0.25, are two bets in one. Your stake is divided equally between the 0 line (no handicap) and the 0.5 line, so £10 on Ireland +0.25 is £5 on Ireland 0 and £5 on Ireland +0.5. In this case:
- Ireland win: you’re paid on both £5 bets.
- Draw: you get the £5 on Ireland 0 back, and the £5 on Ireland +0.5 wins.
- Austria win: you lose both £5 bets.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Odds
Both teams to score (BTTS) is a yes-or-no bet that has nothing to do with who wins. You just have to answer this question: will Ireland and Austria both score at least once? Yes wins with results like 2-2 or 3-1. No wins if either team fails to score, as in 0-0 or 2-0.
It’s a way to back the kind of game you expect. If you think both defences will struggle, Yes fits that view. If you expect one team to keep a clean sheet (not let in a goal), No does.
