Liverpool fans still love Xabi Alonso for his part in the 2005 Champions League win, and many hoped he would manage them one day. In the end, the job went to another Basque, Andoni Iraola, and Alonso joined Chelsea.

As a manager, he has lost both of his Champions League visits to Anfield: 4-0 with Bayer Leverkusen in November 2024 and 1-0 with Real Madrid in November 2025. The third comes in the EFL Cup fourth round, at Anfield in Liverpool, on Wednesday 28 October at 8pm GMT.

Every bet below has a simple guide so that you can get started even as a total beginner. The other seven last-16 ties are on our EFL Cup odds page.

Liverpool vs Chelsea – Betting Odds

Away team Chelsea are the favourites in the Liverpool vs Chelsea betting odds. A £10 bet on Chelsea at 11/9 would make £12.22 profit, while the same bet on Liverpool at 7/4 would make £17.50. The draw pays the most because the bookmaker rates it least likely.

1X2 Betting Odds

Of all the football betting markets, 1X2 is the simplest: you pick how the match ends. 1 is a home win, X a draw and 2 an away win, so here 1 is a Liverpool win and 2 is a Chelsea win. The winning margin doesn’t matter: a 1-0 win pays the same as a 5-0.

In this round, there’s no extra time: if the score is level after 90 minutes, the tie goes straight to penalties. The shootout decides who goes through, but it doesn’t change the score, so the game still counts as a draw and X wins.

The odds are shown as fractions: the first number is what you win and the second is what you stake (the money you bet). At 7/4, you win £7 for every £4 you bet, plus your stake back. The less a bet pays, the more likely the bookmaker thinks it is, and the team with the lowest price is the favourite.

Here are the Liverpool vs Chelsea odds for the three results:

Liverpool win (1) Draw (X) Chelsea win (2)
7/4 13/5 11/9

Double Chance Odds

Double chance covers two of the three results with one bet, so you only lose if the third one happens. You can pick:

  • 1X: home win or draw
  • 12: home win or away win
  • X2: draw or away win

Covering two results makes the bet safer, so it pays less. That’s why every price below has a first number smaller than the second, which is called odds-on: you win less than you stake, so £5 on 2/5 wins just £2.

In a cup tie, be careful with 12: it pays if either team wins the match, but not if the match ends level and goes to penalties.

1X – Liverpool or draw 12 – Liverpool or Chelsea X2 – Draw or Chelsea
6/11 1/4 2/5

Liverpool or draw pays more than Draw or Chelsea, because the bookmaker thinks Liverpool are more likely to lose: from £10, that’s £5.45 profit compared with £4. Liverpool or Chelsea is the safest of the three, as only a draw beats it, and pays just £2.50.

Handicap Betting Odds

Handicap betting gives one team a head start on paper. The underdog gets extra goals, shown with a plus sign (+), and the favourite has goals taken away, shown with a minus sign (-). When the match ends, you adjust the real score with the handicap, and the new score decides the bet.

For example, a favourite at -1.5 must win by two goals or more, while an underdog at +1.5 wins the bet unless they lose by two or more.

This market can also use quarter goals (+0.25 and -0.25) which split your stake into two halves. If your team wins, you win in full, and if they lose, you lose your stake. A draw is where it changes:

  • +0.25: on a draw, half your stake wins and the other half comes back.
  • -0.25: on a draw, half your stake comes back and the other half is lost.
Liverpool +0.25 Chelsea –0.25
3/4 12/13

Here Chelsea have the minus sign because they’re the favourites.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Odds

Both teams to score, or BTTS, doesn’t care who wins. It asks one question: will each team score at least one goal? If they both do, as in a 2-1 or a 3-2, Yes wins. If one team, or both, fail to score, as in a 0-0 or a 2-0, No wins.

The score doesn’t have to be high, so a 1-1 is enough for Yes, while 4-0 is still a No. Goals in a penalty shootout don’t count.

Yes No
5/12 8/5

At 5/12, Yes is a strong favourite: the bookmaker expects goals at both ends, and £10 would make £4.17. No would make £16 from the same £10, as it needs one team to stop the other scoring for the whole game.

Goal Total (Over/Under) Odds

Over/Under is a bet on how many goals are scored in total, by both teams together. The bookmaker sets a line, and you bet on the total being over or under it. Lines end in .5, so there’s never a tie.

Here the line is 3.5 goals. Over 3.5 needs four goals or more, like 3-1 or 2-2, and Under 3.5 wins with three or fewer, like 2-1 or 0-0. On 7bet, you can drag the slider to another line, such as 2.5, and the prices change with it.

Remember, this is just an example. You’re free to set the line wherever you want.

Over 3.5 goals Under 3.5 goals
6/5 3/5

In the Liverpool vs Chelsea odds, Under is the favourite at 3/5, and £10 on it would make £6. Over would make £12 from the same £10, which isn’t much for four or more goals, since most matches end with fewer. That price shows the bookmaker expects an open game.

Correct Score Odds

Correct score means predicting the exact final score. It’s the hardest bet here to win, so it has the biggest prices. Coming close isn’t enough: if you bet on 2-1 and the game ends 3-1, you still lose.

To pick a score on 7bet, use the + and – buttons beside each team’s name. A penalty shootout won’t change the score: in the 2022 final between these clubs, 21 penalties went in, but the score stayed 0-0.

Here are four scores from the Liverpool vs Chelsea odds:

0–0 1-1 Liverpool 0–1 Chelsea Liverpool 1–2 Chelsea
17/1 17/3 11/1 8/1
