Slaven Bilić’s first spell as Croatia coach ended at Euro 2012, with a defeat by Spain that sent his team home. Fourteen years later he’s back in charge, and Spain have beaten his side again, 4-1 in Seville on 29 September.

A week later, Bilić gets a rematch at home: Matchday 4 of League A, Group 3 in the UEFA Nations League, at Stadion Poljud in Split on Tuesday 6 October, with kick-off at 19:45 BST.

Every betting term below is explained from scratch, and other group games are on our Nations League betting page.

Croatia vs Spain – Betting Odds

The Croatia vs Spain betting odds make the world champions strong favourites. Our bookmakers see a home win as the least likely result.

1X2 Betting Odds

1X2 is a bet on the match result. 1 is a home win, X is a draw and 2 is an away win, so here 1 means Croatia and 2 means Spain. You only need the right result, not the exact score, and you’ll see the same labels in other football betting markets, like double chance.

Fractional odds make more sense when you say them out loud. 5/1 is “five to one”: for every £1 you bet, you win £5. 2/5 is “two to five”: you bet £5 to win £2. A winning bet also returns your stake (the money you bet).

Here Spain have the lowest price, so they’re the favourite. Their 2/5 is also odds-on, because the first number is smaller than the second. Odds-on means the bookmaker thinks a result is more likely to happen than not, so you win less than you bet. The opposite concept is odds-against.

These are the Croatia vs Spain odds for the match result:

Croatia win (1) Draw (X) Spain win (2)
5/1 15/4 2/5

Double Chance Odds

Double chance covers two of the three results with one bet, so you only lose if the third one happens. It uses the same labels as 1X2:

  • 1X: Croatia win or draw
  • 12: Croatia win or Spain win, so only a draw loses
  • X2: draw or Spain win

Having two chances instead of one means a much smaller payout. It’s handy if you think a team won’t lose but can’t decide between a win and a draw.

1X – Croatia or draw 12 – Croatia or Spain X2 – Draw or Spain
16/11 2/13 1/8

Handicap Betting Odds

When one team is much stronger, backing them to win pays very little. Handicap betting is there to even things out. For the bet only, the favourite has goals taken off their score, shown with a minus sign (like Spain -1), and the other team has the same number added, shown with a plus sign (like Croatia +1). The adjusted score decides your bet.

On a whole-number line like Spain -1:

  • Spain win by two or more, say 0-2: the adjusted score is 0-1, so you win.
  • Spain win by exactly one, say 0-1: it’s adjusted to 0-0 and your stake comes back. This is called a push.
  • A draw or a Croatia win: you lose.

Croatia +1 is the reverse: it wins if Croatia win or draw, pushes if Spain win by one, and loses if Spain win by two or more.

A .5 line has no push: Spain -1.5 just needs Spain to win by two or more. A .25 line splits your stake between the two nearest lines, so £10 on Spain -1.25 is £5 on -1 and £5 on -1.5. If Spain win by exactly one, the £5 on -1 comes back and the £5 on -1.5 loses.

Croatia +1.25 is the reverse: on a one-goal Spain win, half your stake comes back and half wins. Any other result wins or loses both halves together.

Croatia +1 Spain –1
9/8 8/13
Croatia +1.25 Spain –1.25
5/6 5/6

Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Odds

Both teams to score, or BTTS, isn’t about who wins. It only asks whether each team scores at least once:

  • Yes wins if both teams score, like 1-1 or 2-1.
  • No wins if at least one team doesn’t, like 0-0 or 1-0.

This means Croatia 1-4 Spain counts as Yes, because Croatia scored too. It lets you bet on how open the game will be without picking a winner.

Yes has the lower price at 8/11 in this match, so the bookmaker leans towards both teams scoring.

Yes No
8/11 24/25

Goal Total (Over/Under) Odds

Over/Under is a bet on the total number of goals, no matter who scores them. The bookmaker sets a line, usually 2.5 goals, and you pick whether the total will be over or under it.

The half goal means the total can never land exactly on the line. Over 2.5 needs three goals or more, like 2-1 or 3-0, and Under 2.5 needs two or fewer, like 0-0 or 1-1. On 7bet, you can move the goal line with the slider, for example to 1.5 or 3.5 goals, and the prices change with it.

On the 2.5 line, the Croatia vs Spain odds look like this:

Over 2.5 goals Under 2.5 goals
5/9 9/7

Correct Score Odds

Correct score is a bet on the exact final score. If you back Croatia 1-2 Spain and the match ends 0-2, you lose, even though Spain won like you had predicted.

With so many possible scores, it’s the hardest bet on the page to win, which is why it pays the most. The home team’s goals always come first, so here 1-2 is a Spain win.

Below are the Croatia vs Spain odds for some popular scorelines:

0–0 1–1 0–1 Spain 1–2 Spain
16/1 15/2 7/1 13/2

Of these four, 1-2 has the lowest price at 13/2, so the bookmaker rates it most likely. A goalless draw pays the most, because the bookmaker expects goals.

Please note that the odds are accurate as per the publishing time of the article. Our bookmakers may update their prices as matchday approaches, so please check the latest Croatia vs Spain odds before placing a bet.
