Who to Look Out for at the Futurity Trophy Stakes 2026

This year’s field is small, but it includes two Group-race winners: Noble Exhibit and Al Hudaiba. Lester Piggott and Pat Eddery share the jockeys’ record with five wins each, while Aidan O’Brien is the most successful trainer with 12 winners.

Last year’s winner was the bay colt Hawk Mountain, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ronan Whelan. It was his third win from four starts as a two-year-old, following victories in the John Ormonde Wexford Sand Irish European Breeders Fund in August and the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Beresford Stakes in September, both at the Curragh. In 2026 he ran five times and won once.

Noble Exhibit

  • Age: 2 years old
  • Sex and colour: chestnut colt
  • Trainer: Aidan O’Brien
  • Jockey: Ryan Moore
  • Record: 2 wins from 3 starts
  • Key win: Churchill Tyres Beresford Stakes (Group 2, September 2026)

Noble Exhibit is the market leader after two straight wins. He made his debut in the Coolmore Stud St Mark’s Basilica Irish European Breeders Fund Maiden at the Curragh in August 2026, finishing third behind Monogram.

In September he won the Punchestown Is Back Maiden at Punchestown. Later that month he returned to the Curragh and took the Group 2 Beresford Stakes by three lengths, over the same 1-mile trip he faces on Saturday.

Burning Up

  • Sex and colour: bay colt
  • Trainer: Karl Burke
  • Jockey: Clifford Lee
  • Record: 2 wins and 1 second from 3 starts

Burning Up won his debut over 1 mile at Haydock Park in August 2026, by 2¾ lengths. He followed up over the same course and distance in September.

On his third start he stepped up to Class 1 company at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile on 26 September and finished second, beaten 1¼ lengths. All three of his races have been over 1 mile, and he is second in the betting.

Al Hudaiba

  • Age: 2 years old
  • Sex and colour: grey colt
  • Trainer: Charlie Appleby
  • Jockey: William Buick
  • Record: 4 wins from 6 starts
  • Key wins: Summer Stakes (Group 1, September 2026), Boodles Superlative Stakes (July 2026)

Al Hudaiba won on his debut in the EBF Novice Stakes at Newmarket in May. Later that month he unseated Tom Marquand inside the final furlong of the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Yarmouth.

He then won the JCB British EBF Novice Stakes at Newmarket in June and the Boodles Superlative Stakes at Newmarket in July. He finished third behind Dr Rascal in the Coral Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in July. His latest start brought his biggest win so far, in the Group 1 Bet365 Summer Stakes at Woodbine, Canada, in September.

Breacher

  • Age: 2 years old

Sergei Diaghilev

  • Age: 2 years old
  • Sex and colour: bay colt
  • Trainer: Aidan O’Brien
  • Jockey: Wayne Lordan
