As the flat racing season enters its second half, get ready for a meeting that will combine Europe’s richest flat handicap race with fabulous fashion and some of the oldest and fastest races of its racecourse. Sky Bet Ebor Festival 2026 will open its gates on Wednesday, 19 August this year and last until Saturday, 22 August. It is the most significant flat race meeting held at the York Racecourse, with Ebor Festival 2026 betting odds covering a packed programme of Group races and major handicaps across the four days.

Third biggest racecourse in Britain when it comes to total prize money and second behind Ascot in prize money per meeting, the York Racecourse was established in 1731. Today it stays active in the flat season and hosts four of Britain’s 38 annual Group 1 races – the Juddmonte International Stakes, the Yorkshire Oaks, the Nunthorpe Stakes, and the City of York Stakes.

This year the Ebor Festival will open with The Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Handicap Stakes as its first race, while The Sky Bet Finale Handicap Stakes will close the entire event.

The feature races for each day are: Juddmonte International Stakes for day one, Yorkshire Oaks for day two, Nunthorpe Stakes for day three, and Ebor Handicap for day four. The latter also headlines the entire event.

Betting at Ebor Festival 2026

At 7bet, we offer a wide range of horse race betting markets both for domestic and international events.

Please note that odds for the Ebor Festival 2026 will be available closer to the event date.

Betting at the Ebor Festival 2026 includes various horse betting markets, with some of the most popular ones being:

  • Win: This market is aimed at predicting the race outcome and you place your wager on the horse that you think will win the race. If you predict the winner correctly, you will be eligible for a payout proportional to the offered odds and your stake size. This bet is recommended for beginner bettors to learn how odds work.
  • Place: When you place a wager on a horse to be placed, you predict that it will finish the race in one of the winning places. These usually range between top two and top four depending on how many runners participate in the race. Your risks are lower because you don’t have to predict the exact place your horse will take in the winning top and a strong contender has better chances to be placed than to win the race.
  • Each Way: With this market, you can place two bets on the same horse in the same race. One is for the horse to win the said race, the other is for it to be placed. Your stake will double but if your horse takes first place, you will get payouts on both wagers. If it is not the winner but is still placed, you will lose your win stake but will get a payout on your place stake.
  • Forecast/Tricast: With this market, you bet on the first two (forecast) or first three (tricast) horses to finish the race. Both are treated as a single wager, so your stake doesn’t increase depending on the number of horses you bet on. If you are betting on the straight version of either bet, the horses need to come to the finish line strictly in the order you specify. Reverse forecast and combination tricast allow more flexibility: you are eligible for a payout if the horses finish in any order as long as they stay within the bet places. For all variations, if any of the horses stays behind, you lose even if others come to the finish line as predicted.

Always remember to gamble responsibly and treat betting as a form of entertainment and not means for financial gain.

Juddmonte International Stakes (Wednesday, 19 August)

The Juddmonte International Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race that accepts both male and female horses aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 56 yards (2,063 metres).

It is a fairly modern race, having been launched in 1972. With the prize purse of £1,500,000, it is currently the richest race of the season at the York Racecourse. Its 2024 edition gained the title of the best horse race in the world.

Three horses share the title of the most successful runner: Dahlia (1974, 1975), Ezzoud (1993, 1994), and Halling (1995, 1996), each with 2 wins.

Frankie Dettori stands out among the jockeys, having brought as many as 6 winners to the finish line (Halling 1996, Singspiel 1997, Sakhee 2001, Sulamani 2004, Authorized 2007, Mostahdaf 2023).

This was her fourth and last win of the season, which included the champion crown in the Weatherbys ePassport Cheshire Oaks (Chester, May 2025), Betfred Oaks (Epsom Downs, June 2025), and Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Curragh, July 2025). Since the beginning of the 2026 season, she has won the Clem Murphy Memorial Irish European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh Racecourse in May and came second behind Ombudsman in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at the Ascot Racecourse in June. She has been declared to participate in this year’s race. Minnie Hauk was trained by Aidan O’Brien and led on the track by jockey Ryan Moore.

Ebor Festival

Other Notable Races

The Ebor Festival includes a number of other notable races on its race card. Standing out among them is the City of York Stakes, the fourth Group 1 race and the only one conducted on the last day of the meeting.

City of York Stakes (Saturday, 22 August)

The City of York Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race that accepts both male and female horses aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres).

It was first run in 1978 as a Listed race, but has since been upgraded several times. Its current status of a Group 1 race was assigned as recently as 2025.

While the race allows repeated participation for any runner, the first multiple winner in its history is Kinross with 2 wins (2022, 2023).

Frankie Dettori holds the title of the most successful jockey with 6 wins (Cragganmore 1994, Hidden Meadow 1997, Fa-Eq 1999, Expert Eye 2018, Kinross 2022, 2023).

Two trainers share the crown for bringing the highest number of their charges to the finish line as winners: Andrew Balding (Vanderlin 2003, Dream Eater 2009 in dead heat with Confront, Absolutely So 2014, Shine So Bright 2019, Never So Brave 2025) and Sir Michael Stoute (Ten No Trumps 1987, Magical Strike 1989, Arakan 2005, Confront 2009 in dead heat with Dream Eater, Expert Eye 2018), each with 5 wins.

The latest winner in 2025 was a 4 year old bay gelding Never So Brave. This was his third out of three wins of the season. The other two were both achieved at the Ascot Racecourse, first the Buckingham Palace Stakes during the Royal Ascot week in June and later the Cornish Orchards Summer Mile Stakes during the Summer Mile meeting in July. Since the start of the 2026 season he has participated in four races. The most successful one brought him second place in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Criterion Stakes at the York Racecourse in June. He has been declared to participate in this year’s race. Never So Brave was trained by Andrew Balding and led on the track by jockey Oisin Murphy.

Currently, there are 25 runners announced to compete in this year’s race, but this number may change before the day of the race. Some of the jockeys for the race have already been announced, others are still awaiting confirmation.
