Chelsea: Team Analysis and Preview

Chelsea won the Premier League trophy back in 2016-17. They were finishing in the top five till the 20-21 season. After that, however, the club had a sharp decline as they finished 12th in 22-23 but bounced back to a 6th-place finish last season.

Currently, they are in the 4th position with 53 points and have qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

They have a new coach, Enzo Maresca, who joined in June 2024. Before this, Maresca was Leicester City’s coach and helped them earn a promotion back to the Premier League in April 2024.

Chelsea’s Premier League campaign kicked off with a 0–2 defeat to Manchester City as Maresca made his managerial debut. However, the team quickly rebounded with a solid 6–2 victory over Wolverhampton, where striker Noni Madueke netted a hat-trick. They are enjoying a good form with three wins, one loss, and one draw in the last five matches.

Standout performers for the team this season are midfielder Cole Palmer (14 goals and 7 assists), strikers Nicolas Jackson (9 goals, 5 assists) and Noni Madueke (7 goals, 3 assists), and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, who has kept eight clean sheets in 31 matches.

Chelsea’s last match against Brentford ended in a 0–0 draw on 6th April.

In other matches, Chelsea was knocked out of the FA in a 4th round defeat to Brighton (1–2). Their EFL Cup hopes ended with a 0–2 defeat to Newcastle in the round of 16 matches. However, they are still going strong in the Europa Conference League. They have reached the quarterfinals, where they’ll meet Legia Warszawa in two-leg matches.

They’ll be kicking off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign on 17th June with a match against Leon.

Ipswich Town: Team Analysis and Preview

This is Ipswich Town’s first season in the Premier League. They were a League One team from 2019–22. They earned a promotion to Championship in the 2023-24 season and had a fantastic season. The Tractor Boys, as the team is popularly known, finished second with 96 points (just a point short of Championship winners Leicester City). Both the teams made it to the Premier League. This ended the Tractor Boys’ 22-year absence from the top flight.

Manager Keiran McKenna has been instrumental in getting the team two back-to-back promotions.

However, their journey in the Premier League may be short-lived as they are currently in the relegation zone. They are in 18th position with 20 points. For comparison, the Wolves hold the 17th position with 32 points. Ipswich Town will need to win at least four of the remaining seven matches to have a fighting chance at avoiding relegation.

Striker Liam Delap has been a standout performer for Ipswich, netting 12 goals and giving two assists in 30 Premier League appearances. His impressive form has attracted attention from major clubs, with Manchester United reportedly considering bidding for the 22-year-old forward.

While the Trucker Boys have won only four matches, one of these wins was against Chelsea in a home game, giving them some confidence as they approach Sunday’s game.
