The English team advanced to the round of 16 phase directly after the league phase, while the Dutch club had a seeded advance after the knockout phase play-offs. Arsenal started the league phase in an away match with the Italian Atalanta that ended in a 0 – 0 draw. They continued a pretty impressive game until the end of the phase, with the most outstanding victory being 5 – 1 against the Portuguese Sporting CP. Their only loss so far came at the hands of Inter Milan.
PSV Eindhoven lost their first game of the league phase 1 – 3 in an away match to Juventus. They continued with a mixed bag of wins, losses, and draws. Their most impressive win so far was 4 – 0 against the Spanish Girona.
Arsenal has been playing the entire season under their manager of over five years, Mikel Arteta. In September 2024 Arteta signed a contract to lead The Gunners for another three years. Peter Bosz signed the contract as the PSV Eindhoven’s head coach in July 2023 and has been with the club ever since.
