Now that the celebrations for the winner of the 2023/2025 ICC World Test Championship have calmed down, the attention of the cricket world is once again back to the newly started 2025/2027 ICC World Test Championship.
The third series of the season, the Frank Worrell Trophy, will see the Australian cricket team tour the West Indies between 25 June and 16 July 2025. The two teams will play three Test matches against each other. The first Test is scheduled to take place on 25-29 June at the Kensington Oval stadium in Bridgetown, Barbados and will kick off at 15:00 for the British viewers.
As Test cricket is considered the most challenging form of the game, where matches can last up to five days, the Championship is the ultimate test for the best teams and a prestigious award to take home. To qualify for participation, teams have to fall within the first nine positions of the ICC Men’s Test Team Ranking. Currently, Australia occupies the first line, while West Indies are ranked eighth.
During the three editions of the ICC World Test Championship, Australia has won the trophy once, in the 2021/2023 season. They were aiming for the champion title in the last season as well but lost to South Africa in the finals.
West Indies, on the other hand, haven’t yet climbed above the eighth position of the league table.
Every win, draw, or tie in the series gives the team a certain amount of points, defining their place in the league table. At the end of the biennial season, two teams with the highest PCT (points won out of points contested) will meet in the final.
West Indies Team Preview
The 2023/2025 edition of the ICC World Test Championship didn’t bring any new results for the West Indies team. Same as in the previous two editions, they finished the tournament in the eighth position out of the existing nine. Despite having won the last game of the season, which took place against the Pakistani team, they couldn’t climb any further up the league table.
The game against Australia will be the West Indies team’s first match in the new season.

The last time the latter played a Test match was three years ago.
Australia Team Preview
The defending champions of the tournament, Australia was going strong during the last edition of the ICC World Test Championship. Having won in both games of the final series of the season, the Warne–Muralitharan Trophy, against Sri Lanka, they found themselves in the second position of the league table, which qualified them to play in the finals.
Had they won the finals, Australia would have become the first cricket team to have more than one ICC World Test Championship trophy. However, this time the South African team proved to be stronger. They won the finals by 5 wickets and became the champions.
The game against the West Indies will be the Australian team’s first match in the new season.

Australia Squad Overview
Australia has announced the following squad for the series:
- Pat Cummins (captain)
- Sean Abbott
- Scott Boland
- Alex Carey (wicket keeper)

- Travis Head
- Josh Inglis (wicket keeper)
- Usman Khawaja
- Sam Konstas

A notable change to the Australian squad took place after the travelling reserve Brendan Doggett who was on the field during the ICC World Test Championship final with South Africa got a minor hip issue. Sean Abbot was called to replace him. This will be his first Test match, though he previously accompanied the squad during the Sri Lanka tour.
Steve Smith, who dislocated his finger on day three of the finals, currently stays on the squad, but will be keeping his finger in a splint. The coach of the Australian team, however, is ready to change this decision, depending on Smith’s ability to play.

Venue Spotlight: Kensington Oval
The Australia tour of the West Indies will start in Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados. The first Test match is scheduled to take place at the Kensington Oval stadium.
While the stadium was founded in 1871, its history of cricket began in 1882 when Pickwick Cricket Club, the country’s second oldest cricket club, officially acquired ownership of the grounds. In 2009 Pickwick relocated to Foursquare Park, and since 2013 Kensington Oval became the home base of Barbados Royals.
The stadium remains the main venue for the games that include Barbados national cricket team and the Barbados venue for all Test matches where the West Indies cricket team takes part.
Kensington Oval hosted its first Test match on 11–16 January 1930, when West Indies hosted England. The match ended in a draw. Overall, the venue has seen 43 Test matches, with the West Indies team winning 21 of them.
In 2008 Kensington Oval received an award in the category “For Sports or Leisure Structures” from the British Institution of Structural Engineers.
West Indies vs Australia 1st Test Betting Odds
It is not only the teams that are getting ready for the first Test match of the series. A lot of major bookmakers are also preparing to announce the odds for the outcome of the match as well as other betting markets, while punters are making predictions.
At 7bet, we offer a wide range of cricket betting markets both for domestic and international events.
Please note that odds for the Australia tour of West Indies – West Indies vs Australia 1st Test will be available closer to the event date.
Some of the most popular cricket betting markets include:
- Match Winner: The simplest and most straightforward bet, it involves predicting the team that will win the match. As a bettor, you need to know both teams really well, understand their physical form and history with each other.
- Top Bowler: Here you place a bet on an individual bowler who in your opinion has all the chances to take the most wickets in the game. You need to be well familiar with both teams’ bowlers and their skills.
- Top Batter: Here you place a bet on an individual batter who in your opinion has all the chances to score the most runs in the game. You need to be well familiar with both teams’ batters and their skills.
- Man of the Match: Trying to predict the player with the best overall performance during the match can be equally very easy and very difficult, depending on the teams, their current squads, and your knowledge of their recent performances.
While these are the main cricket betting markets, you can also place a wager on other popular bets: total runs for the team (as a rule displayed in an over/under format), total runs odd/even, first innings overs, and more.
Cricket odds mostly work in the same way they do in other sports. The UK bookmakers favour fractional odds (e.g. 7/4). The majority of European countries as well as some others work with decimal odds (e.g. 2.5). The United States, Canada, and several other countries prefer the so called American odds (e.g. +120, -150).
If you want to learn more about how cricket betting markets and odds work, we have a detailed guide just for that.
Always remember to gamble responsibly and treat betting as a form of entertainment and not means for financial gain.
