Leicester City: Team Analysis and Preview
A long time has passed since the Foxes won the Premier League winners just 2 years after earning a promotion from the Championship. Since then, they’ve faced relegation and bounced back a year later. This year has underwhelming for the Foxes as they linger at the bottom of the table.
Head coach Steve Cooper was relieved of his duties in November last year and was replaced by the legendary Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The team has been fighting for every point and has managed to win only three matches out of 20.
Striker Abdul Fatawu will be missing from the squad this entire season after suffering a ligament injury. Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who blocked 31 goals in 16 matches will be out entire January due to a groin injury. Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi (4 assists) and defender Ricardo Pereira have also been ruled out for this month.
Nistelrooy is in talks to sign 25-year-old right-back Woyo Coulibaly from Parma to replace Fatawu. He is also optimistic about avoiding relegation. “It’s not a maybe. I see the characteristics and qualities in players that are there. That is the most important thing. When I first signed, I believed it was possible with this squad to stay in. We need luck. Losing Mads [Hermansen] and Abdul Fatawu were big blows but we have to adjust and find ways. We’ve shown over the past six weeks that we’re making steps in the right direction to make sure performances get turned into points,” he said in a recent press conference.
Fulham: Analysis and Team Preview
Fulham is quickly rising in the ranks this season. They had a slow start with back-to-back defeats followed by an eight-match unbeaten streak.
Strikers Raúl Jiménez (8 goals, 2 assists) and Rodrigo Muniz (3 goals, 1 assist) have done most of the leg work in claiming the ball from deep positions and creating chances for Fulham. Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi have also struck a great partnership, scoring 5 goals each.
The Cottagers are without defender Kenny Tete (2 assists) and striker Reiss Nelson (1 goal, 1 assist) this month due to injuries. There are doubts over the fitness of midfielder Sander Berge and striker Muniz.
Head coach Marco Silva meanwhile has his eyes set on the FA Cup. “I told the players that the top ambition is this competition. All clubs should look at this cup like it deserves. It is a good competition in this country that everybody loves,” Silva said recently on the team’s chances of winning the Cup.
