Kylian Mbappé has officially joined the European champions Real Madrid for the next five years, following tense speculations on whether 2024 will be the season the French forward joins Los Blancos.
The 25-year-old forward of Paris Saint Germain and captain of the France national team, whose contract with his current club expires on June 30, will join the Spanish team on July 1. Real Madrid will get Mbappé on a free transfer within the La Liga transfer window. Mbappé will be getting a sign-on bonus in the amount of £85 million that will be paid in installments over the course of his contract in addition to the annual salary of £12.8 million after tax.
Mbappé: Real Madrid Is “A Dream Come True”
Mbappé took it to X to express his excitement in a heartfelt post. He posted photos of himself as a teenager wearing the famous white kit of Real Madrid. In one of the photos, he stands next to the football club’s legend Cristiano Ronaldo. In the post, he calls his new move “a dream come true,” adding that he is “so happy and proud to join the club of my dream.”
While it is expected that the newly signed forward will be formally presented next week before the Euro 2024, to announce the arrival of Mbappé, Real Madrid issued the following statement: “Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
Some believe that the official confirmation was timed to become public after the Champion League final that took place on Saturday, June 1. When President of France Emmanuel Macron was visiting the national team on Monday, Mbappé told him that it was a matter of hours before the transfer would be officially confirmed.

Real Madrid first tried to sign Kylian Mbappé in 2017 when he was playing at Monaco. At the time, the deal didn’t work out, as Paris Saint Germain interfered, resulting in Mbappé signing a contract with them. This left both the Spanish football club and fans rather frustrated.
For the next seven years, the negotiations between Real Madrid and Mbappé kept coming up periodically, until this year the star forward decided against activating a one-year extension of his contract with PSG.
Mbappé’s place in his new team will eventually depend on the tactical vision of the football club’s manager Carlo Ancelotti, however, the general anticipation is that he will use the best players he has at his disposal.
