Eurovision 2025 Voting System: Overview

Eurovision voting is always fun to watch and participate in. Professional juries and regular people from every participating country get a say in who should be crowned winner in the end. The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest (2025), held in Basel, Switzerland, maintains the voting system that was introduced in 2023. With equal parts of voting distributed between televoting and professional juries, let’s take a closer look at how the system works and how you can cast your votes as well.

Voting in the Eurovision 2025 Semi-Finals

In the Eurovision Semi-Finals, there are no juries, only televoting.

Once the show starts, every country performs according to a pre-determined running order. Viewers from participant countries and select countries from those that have automatically qualified for the final (‘Big Five’ + the Host country) can vote. The voting time starts after all performances have concluded. There are 15 minutes for fans to back the artist and(or) band they liked.

In every country, Eurovision voting is done by phone, SMS or the official Eurovision app. Then, the producers count the votes and pass the information on to the hosts, who announce the advancing countries one by one.

To keep a bit of mystery before the Grand Final, voting results from the Semi-Finals are only announced after the Eurovision Song Contest ends.

Worth knowing: viewers from non-participant countries cannot vote during the Semi-Finals while the Rest of the World also cast their opinions over the phone or official app.

Grand Final Voting in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest

In the Grand Final of the Eurovision, voting is one of the most anticipated moments in the show, creating tension & high-stakes drama for performers and millions of viewers at home. In the Grand Final, all participant countries cast two types of votes – juries and televoting. The only exception is the Rest of the World, that only has a televoting contribution.

After performances are concluded, the hosts announce the vote, and for 15 minutes, juries deliberate and televotes pile in. Once they’re calculated, announcements begin. A TV bridge is established with every participant country and a designated representative shares all the jury votes. Once every jury has voted, the televotes are announced from the lowest to the highest tally, leaving the grand reveal of the winner for the very end.

  • Juries and televotes award points 1 to 8, 10 and 12.
  • All votes are announced in English, with the highest scores also called in French
  • The announcement of all scores can take up to 90 minutes of TV airtime

Juries in the Eurovision Song Contest

Each country has a separate jury that consists of five music & entertainment industry professionals. The jury is usually independently picked by the national broadcaster.

Juries vote independently, and since there are just five people, often from similar backgrounds, their opinions can vastly differ from what regular viewers think. This is why Eurovision betting odds often provide a market for both the ‘Jury Winner’ and the ‘Televote winner’

Most juries evaluate performances based on:

  • Vocal talent & range
  • Staging & stage presence
  • Composition & flow
  • Originality
  • Overall Impression

More often than not, ESC fans have criticised jury voting because of underlying political or historical influences (e.g. Balkan or Scandinavian countries voting for each other, Greece and Cyprus giving each other 12 points, etc.). This is why Eurovision televoting has been separated from the jury votes and now comprises 50 % of the total score.

Voting Methods in the 2025 ESC

All viewers can cast their votes through a few different outlets. Your votes will be added to your country’s tally (if it’s participating) or will be counted towards the Rest of the World. The Eurovision voting methods in the 2025 Grand Final are

  • Phone Calls
  • SMS messages
  • Official Eurovision app
  • Online voting (for the Rest of the World)

Each viewer can vote up to 20 times. Votes can be cast for the same or different performances. You cannot vote for your own country.
