The 2025 season of the Sky Bet Championship has started. Twenty four clubs will play 46 matches each from August to May, to claim three spots in the Premier League.

This will be a busy weekend for sports fans as 12 Championship matches are scheduled between 16th and 17th August. Wrexham and West Bromwich play their match on Saturday, 16th August at 2:30 pm BST.

The Red Dragons, as Team Wrexham is popularly known, are on a roll with three back-to-back promotions.  In the 2024-25 season, Wrexham became the first team in English football history to achieve three consecutive promotions as it earned a spot in the Championship (second tier).

West Brom had a mid-table finish in the Championship last season. The Baggies finished 9th with 64 points as they managed to win only 15 out of their 46 matches. This was a drop of four positions from the previous season, when they finished 5th with 21 wins and 75 points.

However, bettors and fans shouldn’t write off the Baggies. They managed to swing a brief promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-21 season. They were relegated the next season and have since been a solid mid-table team in the Championship.

Both teams have their strengths and will be looking for a win on Saturday, so fans can expect plenty of action. The match kicks off at STōK Cae Ras in Wrexham, Wales.

Below, we give you the Wrexham vs West Brom preview, betting markets, and odds.

1X2 Odds

Wrexham (1) X West Brom (2)
16/11 21/10 13/7

The 1X2 is also called the match winner market. This is the most popular betting market as it is fairly simple to follow. Bettors need to pick one out of three possible outcomes of Saturday’s match:

  • 1: Wrexham wins
  • X: Draw
  • 2: West Bromwich wins

UK sportsbooks use fractional odds (as can be seen above) for these outcomes. These odds (accurate to the time of publishing the article) reflect how bookmakers rate each team’s chances.

The denominator is your bet amount, and the numerator is the amount you can expect to win if your chosen outcome wins. For example, Wrexham’s odds for Saturday’s match are 16/11. This means that bettors can win £16 for every £11 for correctly predicting Wrexham’s win. Note that the stake (also known as the betting amount) is returned if your bet is successful. So, the total payout becomes £16+£11, i.e., £27.

Similarly, a successful bet on West Bromwich yields £13 for every £7, and correctly predicting a draw pays £21 for every £10.

Upon simplifying the fractions, for every pound, you receive £1.45 for correctly predicting Wrexham’s win, £2.1 for predicting a draw, and £1.85 if West Bromwich wins.

If the denominator is bigger than the numerator, it’s referred to as “short odds” because the bet pays less than a pound. Similarly, if the numerator value is bigger, it is called “long odds” because they pay out more.

In betting, odds and probability are inversely related. So, if the betting odds are low or short, the probability of that outcome may be higher. For example, let’s say a team is a fan favourite and is expected to win the match. In this scenario, bookmakers offer low odds to even out the market.

Similarly, if the odds are long, that outcome is considered less likely.

However, it is important to note that the odds are just an initial analysis and don’t affect the outcome. A team with long odds can still win the match. So, don’t rely only on the odds for your analysis. Research both teams’ form, injuries, and lineup. The game could tilt in any direction on matchday.

Double Chance

Wrexham or Draw Wrexham or West Brom Draw or West Brom
2/5 1/3 12/25

Double Chance is a variation of the 1×2 market. Here, bettors can pick two (instead of one) outcomes:

  • Wrexham or Draw: This bet loses if West Brom wins.
  • Wrexham or West Brom: You lose if the game ends in a draw.
  • Draw or West Brom: This bet loses if Wrexham wins.

Since you get to pick two out of three outcomes, your probability of winning the Double Chance bet becomes 66%. This is higher than the 33% win probability in the 1×2 market. However, as we mentioned before, probability is inversely related to betting odds. This means your payout will be lower in Double Chance.  Bookmakers give low odds when the likelihood of a result becomes high.

Consider betting on this market after checking both teams’ win-loss-draw record in the last 10 matches. West Bromwich has 3 wins, 5 losses, and 2 draws in their last 10 matches, whereas Wrexham has 4 wins, 4 losses, and 2 draws in the same period.

Use this data to minimise your risk. You can consider removing the option of a draw if you feel this may be the least likely outcome.

Draw No Bet

Wrexham West Bromwich
20/27 1/1

The Draw No Bet (DNB) is yet another variation of 1×2. Here, bettors back only one out of two outcomes. Draw, which is the third possibility, is removed as a betting option. In case the match ends in a draw, bets are refunded. This means your probability of winning in this market is 50%. However, the returns will be lower.

For example, backing Wrexham in the 1×2 market yields £16 for every £11 (as per the latest available odds), while backing the same team in the Draw No Bet market yields £20 for every £27. Upon simplifying, bettors can expect to receive £1.45 per pound in 1×2 and £0.74 per pound in Draw No Bet.

While the odds are low here, it gives you a safety net of a bet refund upon a draw. Consider this market if you are a cautious bettor.

Handicap Betting Odds

Wrexham (+0) West Brom (-0)
20/27 1/1
Wrexham (+0.5) West Brom (-0.5)
2/5 7/4
Wrexham (-0.75) West Brom (+0.75)
2/1 5/14

A handicap or a disadvantage is added when the teams are not evenly matched. The handicap gives the weaker team an advantage or a head start by adding extra points to their final goal tally. A similar number of goals is subtracted from the stronger team.

Let’s say you select a handicap of (+/-) 0.75 and the final score is 3–2. After adjusting the handicap, the final score will be read as 2.25–2.75.

For this fixture, bettors are free to select handicaps between (+/-) 0.5 to (-/+) 0.75. The final score gets adjusted as per your chosen number.

Here are two examples of how positive and negative handicaps work:

  • Wrexham (+0.5) / West Bromwich (-0.5): Wrexham has the advantage here, because 0.5 goals will be added to their final score. To overcome this handicap, West Bromwich will need to win with at least a 2-goal difference. For example, West Bromwich wins 1–2. Based on the handicap, the final score becomes 1.5–1.5, giving a win to Draw bets. If it wins 1–3, the final score becomes 1.5–2.5, and bets on West Bromwich win.
  • Wrexham (-0.75) / West Bromwich (+0.75): West Bromwich has the advantage here as 0.75 gets added to their final score. Wrexham will need to win the match with a 2-goal difference to overcome the handicap.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS Odds)

Yes No
10/11 10/11

The Both Teams to Score (BTTS) market is safer for new bettors because it considers only a specific aspect of the game. The final winner or the score doesn’t matter in this bet. Bettors only have to predict whether both teams will be able to score at least once. Your bet wins as long as both Wrexham and West Brom net the ball at least once.

Consider both teams’ clean sheet records in this market. A clean sheet means the team’s goalkeeper didn’t allow even a single goal to slide in. In their last 10 fixtures, Wrexham has kept three clean sheets and West Brom has kept two.

Select “Yes” if you think both teams can achieve at least one goal in the match. This bet wins as long as the final score doesn’t have a zero in it. This means the final score needs to be at least 1–1 or higher, like 1–2, 3–1, or 4–2. Even if the match ties, your bet wins. However, if there is a zero in the final score, like 0–0, 1–0, or 0–3, the “Yes” bets lose. The “No” bets are the opposite, where bettors predict that one or both teams will keep a clean sheet. “No” bets win if the final score is 1–0, 0–0, 2–0, and so on.

Goal Total (Over/Under) Odds

Over 2.5 Under 2.5
23/20 4/6

The Goal Total market is known as Total, Over/Under, or O/U. Here, bettors have to predict the combined goal total. For example, the match ends 2–0. The final goal total is two.

On 7bet, the goal total betting line can be adjusted from 1.5 to 4.5. For this fixture, the betting line is fixed at 2.5 goals combined. Bettors can adjust the OU line higher or lower as per their analysis. In their last 10 matches, West Bromwich has averaged 1.5 goals per match. Its highest goal tally during this period was five (against Luton Town).

Wrexham averaged 1.7 goals in the same time. Note that it scored three goals each in three matches, its highest goal count in the last 10 matches.

Use this data to decide the over/under line. For example, you think we’ll have a high-scoring match and both teams will score over 3.5 goals combined. The final total has to be at least four for your bet to win. The score should look like 2–2, 3–1, 1–3, or higher for your bet to win.

Correct Score Odds

1/0 (Wrexham Wins) 1/1 (Draw) 0/1 (West Brom Wins)
13/2 14/3 7/1

The correct score is a high-paying market. However, bettors should note that there is a fair bit of risk in this bet. Bettors need to predict two things: who will win and what the exact score will be at the final whistle. For example, predicting a precise 1/0 win for Wrexham pays £6.5 for every pound, and correct score bets on West Brom pay £7 for every pound. Bettors are free to pick any combination of the final score by adjusting the betting line on our page. The score for both teams ranges from zero to +5 goals.

Attempt betting on the correct score only if you follow both teams closely. Since this market is unpredictable, there’s a high risk of losing your money. Bet only the smallest amount possible.
