Premier League: Everton vs Spurs | Match Preview, Stats & Odds

Everton has been in a slump in the last 10 seasons. Their best performance was in 2014–15 when they finished fifth in the English Premier League and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

Manager Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Everton is just two places away from relegation. He has been replaced by David Moyes, West Ham’s ex-manager. Moyes, who has managed just one game (vs Aston Villa) so far is hopeful of turning the tide for the Toffees, as the team is popularly known.

Tottenham Hotspur’s best run was in the 2016-17 season when they finished as the runners-up after losing to Chelsea. Last season, the Spurs finished 5th. They were 8th and 4th in the previous seasons.

With the current season of the Premier League already halfway through, Everton and Spurs have played 20 and 21 matches, respectively. According to the current standings (accurate to the time of publishing), the Toffees are in the 16th position with 17 points. The Spurs are in the 13th position with 24 points.

They face each other on Sunday, 19th January. Below, we give you team previews, head-to-head stats, and odds for the Premier League – Everton vs Spurs match.

Everton: Team Analysis and Preview

This is coach David Moyes’ second term at Everton. He managed the club from 2001-13 and guided them to several top-10 finishes. He left Everton to manage Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and West Ham United.

His second innings had a damp start as Everton lost to Aston Villa 0-1. Moreover, Everton has not scored a goal in 9 of their last 11 matches, leaving them just one point away from relegation. Their highest scorer, midfielder Dwight Mcneil (3 goals, 3 assists) is out entire January due to a knee injury. Striker Armando Broja, who was brought on loan from Chelsea has suffered a leg injury and will also be missing for the next two weeks. Moyes is in talks to acquire another striker in the January transfer window.

He has also switched up the team’s strategy. “We encouraged them to get more into the box and get people in the box more often — get more shots, get more crosses. We obviously need to double those numbers,” he said in an interview with the Athletic, adding, “They are a really good group of lads. But they are looking for someone to give them a lift.”

Tottenham Hotspur: Team Analysis and Preview

Spurs started their campaign strong, with big wins against Manchester United (3–0), Aston Villa (4–1) and Manchester City (4–0), and a win in the EFL Cup semifinal against Liverpool. However, they’ve slipped in the rankings as their last five matches ended in four losses and one draw.

The Spurs have a long list of injuries, with eight players sitting out of the team. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who stopped 13 goals in 12 matches, is out for the entire season with an ankle injury. Strikers Wilson Odobert and Richarlison will be missing the entire January due to hamstring injuries. Defenders Destiny Udogie, M. Van De Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies are also out.

Manager Ange Postecoglou, however, is hopeful of a turnaround. “Too many games getting away from us. It needs to stop. If you give up now, there’s no point. Right now we have a big game against Everton this weekend. That’s our focus,” he said in a press conference.
