Bellewstown
Surface: Yielding to soft
This Irish race track features Flat and hurdle races five times a year, broken up into two summer festivals. The Bellewstown track is a sharp, left-handed oval around nine furlongs in length. The terrain is undulating, meaning it is not flat. The final two furlongs are slightly uphill.
The sharp oval requires an experienced horse that can balance on the curves.

Salisbury
Surface: Heavy, soft in places
Salisbury is a Flat racecourse, with no fences to jump over. It features a loop course, with a right-handed elbow that appears after three furlongs. The straight section gives plenty of time to gallop, however, the last-half mile course is uphill.
This race track has a reputation for being a testing ground for young horses. Many winners have gone on to win bigger races after training at Salisbury. Horses like Sir Percy, Look Here, St Leger, Simple Verse, Harbour Law, Brigadier Gerard, Galileo Gold, and Mill Reef have all won races here before becoming equine superstars.

Clonmel
Surface: Good, yielding in places
The Clonmel racing ground in Ireland hosts 12 meetings annually, including the Grand Nationals selections. The ground is oval-shaped – the first half of the circuit is uphill, followed by a downhill run of a little over two furlongs. The final finish has a stiff uphill climb.

Warwick
Surface: Good to soft in places
The Warwick race ground stages the National Hunt exclusively. The ground is mostly flat except for a fairly steep climb towards the end. It has tight bends which can be tricky for jumping. The racecourse has 10 fences per circuit – five of which come in rapid succession.
It can be a tough course for a novice horse, although this race track also has a reputation for making stars like Hey Big Spender, Hawkes Point, and Shotgun Paddy in the last few years.

Southwell
Surface: Good to firm in places
Southwell is a busy racecourse, as it hosts races throughout the year on an all-weather fibresand surface that closely resembles the American dirt tracks. However, in 2021 the surface was switched to the more common Tapeta. The track is flat and left-handed, meaning the horses run anti-clockwise.

Chelmsford (A.W)
Surface: Polytrack (standard to slow)
Chelmsford ground has an all-weather (AW) Polytrack surface, which was rewaxed earlier this year to reduce kickback.
It has an oval configuration like American tracks and has broad, sweeping turns that favour galloping. It is another left-handed racing track, where horses run anti-clockwise.

Newcastle Racecourse got an all-weather track in 2015 to replace the Flat turf track. The course is round, with a 4-furlong uphill run that tests the horses’ stamina.
The ground hosts a “triple crown” of two-mile hurdles – the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, and the Christmas and Champion Hurdles.
