Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Review – Schedule, Host City, Participants, and Qualifying Dates

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will be the 68th edition of the biggest musical event in Europe. In 2023, Loreen, with her song “Tattoo”, triumphed in the contest for Sweden, which made her a two-time Eurovision winner. As always, the ESC competition will have three phases – two semi-finals and a grand finale. Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman will host all three live ESC shows.

Sweden previously hosted the ESC six times – in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2013, and 2016. 15,500 is the maximum number of seated spectators the chosen Malmö Arena can accommodate, and it is the second largest multi-purpose indoor arena in this Scandinavian country. Malmö Arena also serves as a venue for various sports matches, shows, and other events. It is worth paying attention to the fact that Malmö already hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013.

Eurovision 2024 – Schedule & Format

Pretty much every aspect of the contest will remain the same. However, there are a few differences. Last year, at the start of December, the EBU announced that 37 nations would participate in the 2024 contest.

Luxembourg returns to the contest for the first time in 31 years after its last participation in 1993, while Romania, which had participated in the 2023 contest, will not battle this year. As mentioned before, two semi-finals will transpire on the 7th and 9th of May and a grand final two days later – on the 11th of May.

Eurovision 2024 – Host City

The Swedish Malmö is the third-largest city in the country, located in the southernmost part of the nation. If you decide to travel there, you will discover the Øresund strait, whose bridge connects Denmark and Sweden. It makes travel more comfortable between the two regions. The Swedish city’s population reaches approximately 350,000 people, and it is a culturally eclectic city with nearly 180 diverse ethnicities.

Malmö has a prosperous past, and its history dates back to the 13th century when it still was a fishing town. Throughout the centuries, Malmö has evolved into an influential trading region and is a mixture of historic architecture and contemporary innovations. Malmö has much to offer, starting from many green zones for travellers and finishing with memorable Swedish landmarks: Ribersborg Beach, Turning Torso, Stortorget, Moderna Museet Malmö, and the famous Castle of Malmö.
