2024 Boxing Olympics Winners Who Ruled the Ring and Took the Gold

The high-intensity action at the Boxing Olympics 2024 was abuzz with fierce fights for gold, and Uzbekistan and China claimed the most medals. Not to forget, the controversy that rocked the events when boxers Imane Khelfi of Algeria and Lin Yu Ting of Taiwan faced criticism from the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing to meet the gender eligibility criteria.

The rumours spread like wildfire because of their disqualification from the 2023 World Championship. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) clearly stated that both of them were female, and they called out the IBA for their criticism of the two boxers. Both of them didn’t just fight the rumours, but also determinedly displayed stunning performances and bagged gold.

This guide is packed with all the information about the 2024 boxing Olympics winners and medallists. But before we jump into the review of the winners, let’s clear the confusion about the two bronze medals awarded in this sport.

Why Are There Two Bronze Medal Winners in Olympic Boxing?

Boxing made its Olympic debut in 1904 and just like any other sport, it consisted of gold, silver and bronze medallists. The two players who lost the semi-finals played for the bronze medal. But as we all know, boxing is a contact sport that’s prone to injuries.

The recovery time for the boxers after the semis was insufficient to take part in the bronze medal event. So, the IBA and the IOC decided to award an Olympic diploma to the players who lost in the semis.

This practice started at the Helsinki Games in 1952 and continued until the Mexico Olympics in 1968. The Finland Boxing Association, backed by the IBA, suggested the distribution of two bronze medals. After the IOC’s approval in 1970, this practice came into play and that, folks, is why the Olympics awards two bronze medals for boxing.
